COVID-19 NEWS & RESOURCES

A LETTER TO EMPLOYEES RE: COVID-19 FROM BOARD CHAIRMAN, ROSS LEVIN

To CP-Unlimited Team Members,

The novel coronavirus pandemic we are now living through has made the last month an exceptionally difficult one for New Yorkers. The next month will be equally trying as this crisis appears unlikely to swiftly subside.

The developmentally disabled community as well as the organizations and people who serve them have borne particular hardships. Developmentally disabled individuals are especially vulnerable to infection and typically experience more severe symptoms. Beyond direct health risks, disruptions to care, activities and routines due to pandemic mitigation practices can also be distressing.

The men and women who care for and enrich the lives of people with developmental disabilities have always been "essential", but never more-so than now. Over the last month the employees and management of CP Unlimited have risen to the challenges posed by this pandemic. CP employees have by their tireless efforts and unwavering compassion been protecting our vulnerable population from disease, maintaining their health and enrichment, and preserving their quality of life despite extraordinary challenges. CP management continues to share resources, coordinate adaptation, and maintain both operational standards and financial viability.

On behalf of those we serve, we cannot thank the dedicated CP team enough for all their heroic work over the last month. Our appreciation is matched by our confidence in the dedication and quality the CP team will continue to deliver through this crisis.

We hope state and federal authorities will continue to support our mission and offer incremental help with:

  1. Hazard and overtime pay for direct care employees
  2. Funding and sourcing of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  3. Ensuring long-term financial sustainability for nonprofits serving developmentally disabled people

Budget pressures and public health crises come and go, but the devotion of CP management and employees remains constant. Thank you for all you do.
