CP Unlimited operates Article 16 clinics throughout New York City and in the Hudson Valley area. We are licensed under OPWDD, with a goal of improving the quality of life for persons through rehabilitative services such as Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Social Work/Counseling services. The Article 16 clinics work directly with the medical director who serves also serves as the Physiatrist for all rehab services. The clinics are equipped to address the needs of persons seeking durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, augmentative communication devices, or orthopedic shoes and braces. Occupational Therapy

The focus of Occupational Therapy is to assist consumers regain or maintain a level of independence in the areas of Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and other functional tasks.  Remediation in the areas of motor, sensory, and cognitive/perceptual skills made be required for completion of higher-level tasks.  Tasks that cannot be re-mediated due to the severity of the injury or disability, is addressed through teaching compensatory strategies.  These strategies may include the use of adaptive equipment (feeding and dressing aids, specialized computers, adaptive telephones, and environmental control unites, etc.) or other learning interventions.  

Physical Therapy

The focus of Physical Therapy is to work on musculoskeletal deficits while considering cognitive and behavioral deficits of the person being treated.  Special attention is paid to walking deficits, trunk and extremities deformities and mobility issues.  When a person has a deficit that cannot be corrected, the focus is then teaching compensatory techniques and issuing assistive devices.  Another important aspect of PT is prevention of further deformities by providing passive range of motion exercises, shoes, and braces for the lower extremities.  

Speech Therapy

The focus of Speech Therapy is working on improving all aspects of communication skills.  This can be accomplished through oral-motor exercises, teaching individual’s appropriate techniques in sounding out words and using language functionally in daily activities.  If speech is not possible electronic or non-electronic devices can be utilized.  Within Speech Therapy specialty areas.

Social Work 

The focus of psychotherapy is to provide counselling services in the areas of grief, anger management, build self-esteem, build social and healthy relationship skills. These services are provided during one on one sessions to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Psychotherapy can help eliminate or control troubling symptoms so a person can function better and can increase their overall well-being and healing.
