CP Unlimited is proud to be the only organization offering the M.O.V.E. (Mobility Opportunities via Education/Experience) program to adults in the New York City area.
M.O.V.E. is a transformative activity-based program designed to help individuals acquire the motor skills needed for sitting, standing, walking and transitioning. Located at our Cora Hoffman Center on Staten Island, the program helps individuals who use a wheelchair become more independent, healthier, and self-reliant. What started as a pilot initiative at just one of our Day Hab programs is now expanding to another with the goal of integrating the M.O.V.E. program at all of our Day Hab settings.
Currently, the Agency supports six people in the M.O.V.E. program, and will soon begin evaluating additional candidates.
“Our M.O.V.E. program is getting people up, out of their wheelchairs, moving in adaptive equipment, decreasing those health risks that they would normally be exposed to on a day-to-day basis. We have seen such a transformation in all of the people we are supporting in the program, seeing an increase in their stamina, coordination, and social skills. It is quite remarkable and exciting! The benefits of M.O.V.E. are endless and I am so proud to be a part of it.” -Melissa D’Accordo, PhD, Curriculum and Training Specialist
