M.O.V.E. (Mobility Opportunities via Education/Experience)
One of the most recent additions to our range of available Day Hab support services is the introduction of the M.O.V.E. (Mobility Opportunities via Education/Experience) program located at our Cora Hoffman Center on Staten Island. The M.O.V.E. program formally launched in June last and we are so excited to continue expanding this transformative program
M.O.V.E. is an activity-based program designed to help individuals acquire the motor skills needed for sitting, standing, walking and transitioning. The program helps individuals who use a wheelchair to become more independent and self-reliant. What started as a pilot initiative at just one of our Day Hab programs is now expanding to another with the goal of having the M.O.V.E. program at all of our Day Hab programs. Currently, we support six people in the M.O.V.E. program, and will soon begin evaluating additional candidates.
CP Unlimited is the only organization offering this program in Day Hab settings in the Metro area.
“The M.O.V.E. program is a transformative force for our individuals. People are getting in the upright position, taking their very first steps, and becoming more mobile and self-reliant. It is inspiring and I am so proud to have this as part of our available services.” -Marleen Whitman, Assistant Facility Director, Cora Hoffman Center
