Though the legacy of The Willowbrook State School is one that no one who works in the I/DD field can ever forget, a new initiative honors the memory of its former residents and celebrates the progress made in the 35 years since the facility was shut down for good.

On Saturday, September 17, CP Unlimited joins with other provider agencies and allies to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the closing at the dedication of The Willowbrook Mile, a trail on the former grounds spotlighting people and stories instrumental in its transformation.

CP Unlimited was one of the first agencies to support Willowbrook residents and it is a responsibility we hold dear. Our work with this special population is the embodiment of our mission to identify opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve fulfilling lives.

After the ceremony beginning at 11:00 AM, CP-affiliated parents, individuals, and team members will come together at Milestone 8 to honor our work at the reveal of our sponsored bench, featuring this inscription:

Commemorating Lives Changed

We hope to see you Saturday for this important program, and we will feature photos and more on our website post-event. Find more information about the Willowbrook Mile online.
